Regency Polaris 88

Regency Polaris 88

The Regency Polaris 88 is a vintage marine VHF radio. Because it's not a very recent radio, channels 87 and 88 have been programmed as duplex channels, which enables the reception of AIS signals.

The discriminator IC is, like the Regency Touch M100 scanner a 18 pin DIL-IC, marked with 'Regency 600-565'. The baseband audio can be found on pin 10.

Pin 10 of the 600-565 carries the unfiltered audio
The discriminator output
Follow the next steps to make the discriminator output:
  • Install a 3.5 mm mono socket in the radio's back
  • Connect a 10 k resistor to pin 10 of the receiver IC
  • Connect the resistor's other lead with the signal solder lug of the chassis socket (red wire)
  • As the metal back of the scanner is connected to ground, a separate ground lead to the chassis socket is not necessary
